GMG wrestler Brooklyn Mitchell earns No. 11 ranking with STC Trojans
TAMA – Following their impressive championship at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Dec. 21, the South Tama County girls wrestling team has earned a No. 7 state ranking in Class 2A. The rankings were released by IAwrestle on Friday, Dec. 27.
Iowa has two classes in girls wrestling for the 2024-2025 school year, 1A and 2A, and the Trojans are classified with many schools that are traditionally larger. At the top of the 2A rankings are schools such as Cedar Falls (No. 1), Ankeny (No. 3), and Southeast Polk (No. 5). At No. 7, STC placed just above Mason City (No. 8), Spencer (No. 9) and Cedar Rapids Kennedy (No. 10).
In addition, six Trojans are ranked individually in the latest polls. Junior Autumn Elsbury leads the way as the current No. 1 ranked wrestler in 2A at 170 pounds, followed by sophomore Kinley Jimenez ranked No. 5 at 235 pounds.
A pair of Trojans are ranked No. 7 in their weight classes including sophomore Paisley Bro (145 pounds) and senior Abigail Chyma (155 pounds).
Sophomore Livia Smith (No. 10 at 100 pounds) and sophomore Brooklyn Mitchell (No. 11 at 130-pounds) round out the current rankings for STC.
Following a break for the holiday season, STC headed to the BGM invite last Saturday, Jan. 4. The team’s next home opportunity was set for this week Thursday, Jan. 9, with duals against Solon and Marion.
