REINBECK — Elly Sieh was happy to see some shots fall last Friday night.
Sieh, a junior for the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team, poured in a career-best 27 points to lead the Rebels to a 62-36 victory at G-R High School on Jan. 3.
Kennedy Brant added 15 points for the Rebels (6-2), who, at press time, are ranked 15th in Class 1A by the IGHSAU.
Sieh scored 22 of her points in the second and third quarters.
“That was good after being in a slump, just not scoring as much as I’m used to,” Sieh said. “It feels good to be able to help the team out.”

She entered Friday’s contest averaging 10.6 points per game, but scored just five points against Jesup on Dec. 20 in the final game before break.
“She’s had a lot of games where she’s had great shots and just hasn’t had all of them fall,” G-R head coach Amber Gerringer said. “It was good to see her have fun tonight and see the ball go in the basket.”
The first quarter set the tone defensively as G-R bottled up the Warriors for a 20-4 advantage after eight minutes.
“We’ve talked a lot about turning defense into offense, and sometimes a lot of that is just limiting their possessions, making sure we get that first rebound and get back to the other end of the floor,” Gerringer said.
Wapsie Valley kept pace with some baskets in the second quarter, but G-R maintained that sizable lead and broke it open in the third quarter behind 13 points from Sieh.
“We’ve been working really hard on being aggressive and not giving up, even when we’re tired, just working as hard as we can,” Sieh said.
The Rebels were at home against Hudson this past Tuesday and travel to Dike-New Hartford tonight, Friday, Jan. 10.
NICL West play will resume Jan. 14 in Reinbeck against East Marshall.
“The girls were definitely itching to get back from break and play another game,” Gerringer said. “It was good to see them come out and play to their potential and stretch it out as much as we did.”
