Naomi DeBerg

Naomi Lorretta DeBerg, 102, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Addington Place in Clinton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel with burial to follow at Reinbeck Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Naomi was born on May 2, 1922, in Parkersburg, Iowa, to Harm and Annie (Ennenga) Veenker. She lived in Holland, Iowa, and attended school in Grundy Center. Naomi was united in marriage to Ollie DeBerg of Little Rock, Iowa. Most of their married life was spent in the Reinbeck area.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, teaching Sunday School and serving her church. She also enjoyed taking care of nursing home residents and patients in the oncology ward at the hospital. Naomi especially loved gardening and her flowers.

Naomi worked at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck and then Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo for 17 years retiring in October of 1984. After a break she returned to work at Parkview Nursing Home for a few more years.

Naomi enjoyed playing with and babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She managed to see all of her grandkids and great-grandchildren just before she passed. Naomi was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Reinbeck. Then later attended First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.

Naomi is survived by her son Michael (Jolene) Deberg, of Clinton, Iowa; grandchildren: Matthew (Courtney) DeBerg, of Clinton, Iowa, Jessica (William) Carroll, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Steven DeBerg, of Clinton, Iowa; great-grandchildren, William Oliver Carroll and Jaxon Matthew DeBerg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ollie and sister Viola Meester.
