Julie Johannsen
Julie Johannsen passed away June 12, 2021 at her Scottsdale, AZ home. Julie was born in Marshalltown, IA on September 11, 1957, the daughter of Lyle Jacob Johannsen and Maxine Johnson Johannsen. Julie grew up on the family farm outside Gladbrook, IA where she attended school. She earned her B.A. at Iowa State University and later, an MBA at the University of Texas – Austin. She met her husband at Iowa State as students in 1977 and they were married on July 16, 1988.
Julie worked as an advertising copywriter in Waverly, IA and as a marketing/media director in Arlington, TX before returning to school to pursue her MBA in Austin. She accepted a job offer from S.C. Johnson & Sons in Racine, WI upon receiving her MBA in 1984. Julie helped her mentor launch Curel moisturizing lotion as an assistant product manager before assuming the role of product manager on the brand. She would later manage other consumer brands for the company, including Aveeno, Shout, and Edge over 15 years. While in Racine Julie gave birth to sons Trevor Jacob Jensen and Henry Robert Jensen.
The family relocated to Scottsdale, AZ after Julie accepted a job with Dial to manage the bar soap brands. After the company was acquired by the Henkel Corp. she accepted a buyout and joined Matrixx Initiatives as the marketing director over Zicam. In late 2004, Julie and her husband Brent bought K-Video Productions. Julie directed the management aspects until the business was sold in 2016 and they retired.
Julie had an active, brilliant, creative and inquisitive mind which enabled her to have a successful business career and a retirement full of researching, reading, learning and traveling to some amazing destinations. Hobbies included genealogy, needlepoint, painting, crosswords and reading 2-3 books at a time. She was a good mother, loved dearly by her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and brother, Paul Hatcher, Julie is survived by her husband, Brent, sons Trevor and Henry, her sister Victoria Burkhardt, sister-in-law Darlene Hatcher, nieces, nephews, and great & great-great nieces and nephews.
The family will host a celebration of life at her home at 10468 N. 98th St., Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, June 19 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
