Marvin Seda, 84

Marvin Seda, 84, of Traer, Iowa, passed away at his home from an extended illness, on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer. Burial was in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be sent to www.overtonservice.com Marvin Franklin Rudolph Seda was born May 11, 1928 on his parents’ farm south of Traer, IA to Edward and Mary Podhajsky Seda. He attended Stormy Point No. 5 and later graduated from Traer High School in 1945. After graduation he was employed by the Traer Creamery and later became assistant butter maker.  In 1949 he joined the Ray Stolzenberg Band in Austin, MN as an accordion player. While playing accordion he sat in with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra and Mr. Welk was impressed by his rendition of “Stardust” and asked him to keep in contact. He also had an opportunity to dance with the “Champagne Lady”. He was later hired by the Whoopee John Band, but before he started was drafted into the United State Army. He served with the 24th Division as a high speed radio operator using Morse code near the front lines in Korea for 9 months. Upon his discharge he farmed with his father and also played with many different bands. He later became co-owner of the Three Knights Band where he played for 14 years. In 1952 Marvin met Florence Marron in Cedar Rapids, IA while she was attending Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On August 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to her at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Waucoma, IA. Marvin and Florence made their home on a farm north of Traer which his parents purchased in 1941 and his son Bill now lives. In later years they retired to Traer and his death came at his home on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the age of 84 years. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Traer where he served on the Parish Council. He also was a member of the Traer American Legion, charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Forrester’s, Tama County Farm Bureau and Pork Producers. He is survived by his wife Florence, five sons, Kennan of Chicago, IL, Dr. Steven (Mehran) of Zurich, Switzerland,  William (Marla) of Traer,  Father Jon Seda of Ames, and Thomas of Traer, IA, five grandchildren, Mark, Nora and Brian Seda all of Traer and Diane and David Seda of Zurich, Switzerland, a sister Bette Jean (Donald) Heapy of Fort Walton Beach, FL, sister-in-law, Mary Irwin of Iowa City and brother-in-law David (Juanita) Marron of Twin Falls, Idaho.
