TOLEDO – Tama County Public Health & Home Care (TCPH&HC) recently received $19,203.60 for Stop the Bleed (STB) kits from Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) funding for emergency and response through the Central Iowa Health Care Coalition. The grant funds are being utilized to provide STB kits and training to Tama County school districts that responded they were interested in collaborating with us.

Kits and staff training on how to use them will be provided by Tammy Schuett, Public Health Nurse, and Mike Buchanan, Medical Reserve Corp Volunteer.

Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma. Bystanders are typically the first ones on scene. Stop the Bleed is a national campaign to train people to provide care and significantly increase a person’s chance of survival.

The STB kits and training will provide our communities with the necessary readiness capability. TCPH&HC has collaborated closely with the school nurses at each building, receiving kits to organize training and providing important resources to the schools and staff.
