Grundy County Board of Supervisors organize for new year

GRUNDY CENTER – On Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors held a special organizing meeting after newly-elected supervisors Jeffrey Pabst (R-Grundy Center) of District 5 and LJ Kopsa (R-Beaman) of District 1 were sworn in alongside returning District 3 Supervisor Vic Vandehaar (R-Dike).

During the meeting, District 2 Supervisor Heidi Nederhoff (R-Wellsburg) was appointed chairperson and District 4 Supervisor Mark A. Schildroth (R-Reinbeck) was appointed vice chairperson.

A slew of resolutions/appointments were made by the board including setting the date and time for regular meetings (every Monday at 9 a.m. until business is completed; if Monday is a holliday, the next business day at 9 a.m.); appointing Harlyn Riekena as weed commissioner for 2025; designating the Grundy Register and Sun Courier as the county’s official newspapers; designating the county’s financial depositories; appointing various farmers/realtors/bankers/auctioneers/property owners to the 2025 Compensation Commission for Grundy County (no vacancies); appointing Steve Scurr, D.O. as the county’s medical examiner; and appointing Greg Selenke, D.O. as assistant medical examiner.

Following the approval of a lengthy list of appointments and reappointments for members of the board, updates on various boards and committees Cowere provided before the meeting was adjourned.
