GRUNDY CENTER – On Jan. 4, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m., a Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputy clocked a truck northbound on T-19 coming out of Wellsburg at 93 mph in a 55 mph zone. The deputy turned on his emergency lights and sirens and the suspect fled leading the deputy on a pursuit that reached speeds over 100 mph.

The subject went through stop signs at a high rate of speed. Due to the very high speeds the deputy lost sight of the vehicle.

A perimeter was set up and deputies were able to locate the vehicle in a heavily wooded area. As deputies approached the vehicle the driver fled on foot.

Deputies pursued and were able to catch the suspect. Both deputies and the driver were transported by ambulance to Grundy County Memorial Hospital for injuries received during the apprehension of the suspect and to be treated for frostbite. Both deputies were successfully treated and released.

The suspect Tanner Lee Henning (31) of Dike was also treated and released to the custody of the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wellsburg Ambulance, Aplington Ambulance, Grundy County Emergency Management, and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and all defendants are presumed innocent.

At the time of his arrest, Henning was facing a jury trial set for Jan. 29, 2025, at the Grundy County Courthouse on the single charge of domestic abuse assault stemming from an incident that allegedly took place at a residence in Parkersburg on Aug. 26, 2024. Arraignment was completed in the case on Oct. 28, 2024, during which Henning entered a plea of not guilty to the charge and demanded a speedy trial. A no contact order of protection in the case was canceled at the victim’s request on Sept. 16.

Henning is being represented by attorney Jennie Wilson-Moore of Conrad in the Oct. 28 domestic abuse case.
