GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted at Veterans Day Supper on Nov. 18. Unit President Jeanne Paustian began the night telling the attendees about Iowa Select Farms. They have a foundation called the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. Their foundation has a project called “Pork for Patriots: serving those who served our country.” They donated four boxes of pork loins to veteran organizations that were hosting a Veterans Day dinner; 160 organizations hosted a pork loin dinner in 65 counties. The foundation also supplied placemats, decorations, aprons and pins. Gladbrook Post and Unit expressed their extreme gratitude to Iowa Select Farms.

The program began with Unit President Jeanne Paustian stating. “Today we recognize our military men and women and veterans with a big thank you for your service. We will never forget our veterans that have passed on to the Post Everlasting.”

Special guests bringing greetings were Dept. Commander Brian Ring Sr., Glenwood, 3rd District Commander Del Shepard, Janesville, and Tama County Commander and Post Commander Ron Busch. The Post had two State Commanders Carroll Wegner and Richard Denbow.

For the entertainment David Buskohl sang two songs “God be the Glory” and the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” with the all joining in. Sue Koster was the pianist.

Paustian read a quote by President John F. Kennedy: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

We live in a free country because of our veterans, so in their honor the military songs were sung. The veterans stood for their branch of service and the other family members waved their hands.

The program concluded with all joining hands and singing “God Bless America.”

Hostesses were Trudi Scott, Pam Thomas, Tandi Davis, Joyce Swangel, Lori Sanderson, Candace Bartel, and Jeanne Paustian.
