Breyfogle takes over as G-R secondary principal
Former Grundy Center administrator replaces Anjuli Myers
REINBECK – Students at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community School District’s secondary building were greeted by at least one new face as they began classes this past Monday – recently hired 7-12 Principal Dan Breyfogle.
Breyfogle, 47, was hired over the summer following Anjuli Myers’s resignation. Myers had served as G-R’s junior high/high school principal since July of 2022 when she was hired to replace Andy McQuillen who took a job with Tipton CSD.
“Anjuli accepted a position with UNI to lead the RAPIL [Regents Alternative Pathway to Iowa Licensure] program within the state,” G-R Superintendent Caleb Bopnjour told the newspaper in an email. “This was a position that really aligned with her passions and goals as a leader and I am happy for her as she continues to grow as a leader in this new role that will continue to help impact our profession.”
While this is Breyfogle’s first year as a head principal, he most recently worked as K-12 assistant principal at Grundy Center Community School District.
According to a post on G-R’s Facebook page, Breyfogle is in his 25th year as an educator – his previous roles include teacher, instructional coach, activities director, and assistant principal. He has or will soon have degrees from three different schools including Iowa State, Drake University, and the University of Northern Iowa. According to Breyfogle’s own Facebook page, he is a graduate of Albert City-Truesdale which today operates only as an elementary school while sending the district’s high school students to Sioux Central Community School District.
Breyfogle is married to Mary Breyfogle who works for the Iowa Dept. of Education as an administrative consultant. The Breyfogles have three children including Preston (25), Paxton (12), and Hattie (10).
“I’m excited to work with the students and staff at GR,” Breyfogle wrote as part of the district’s formal introduction of their newest administrator to the community. “I’m looking forward to becoming part of the GR community and working to make this the best small school in the state!”
Sun Courier note: The newspaper reached out to Principal Breyfogle in early August for comment as part of this story, but did not heard back as of press time.
