GREEN MOUNTAIN – After successfully hosting along with her fellow board members a July 30 community information meeting regarding the district’s upcoming November bond referendum, Green Mountain-Garwin school board president Jill Roberts has resigned.

Per her resignation letter dated Aug. 4 and addressed to both the school board and Superintendent Chris Petersen, Roberts, 73, indicated health and age were the primary factors in her decision.

“With deep regret, I am writing to inform the GMG School Board that, for health and age-related reasons, I am resigning from the board effective immediately,” Roberts wrote. “I wish all of you the wisdom and the courage to continue to do what is best for the students of GMG.”

Roberts, who retired from GMG after 25 years teaching in the math department, has been board president since November of last year. She was currently in her fifth year as a member of the board.

On Tuesday of this week, GMG posted on Facebook a call for individuals interested in filling Roberts’ at-large seat. Those interested in the appointment are asked to contact the district’s board secretary, Betsy Spaur by Aug. 30. Spaur can be contacted by email at bspaur@gmgschools.org, or by phone at 641-474-2254.
